# 2026- Murtoa Wimmera Inland Freezing Works museum. Dunmunkle Sump Oilers

Known as **Dunmunkle Sumpoilers Installed in 1904** Believed to be the only engines in the world in their original position and working. Originally used to generate power for Wimmera Inland Freezing Works refrigeration operations in Murtoa from 1911. Dedicated volunteers have fully restored them back to their original working condition. **Watching ALL FOUR fire up, and running, is an unforgettable experience.**

 Housed in the historic Wimmera Inland Freezing Works buildings at the East end of Murtoa, Victoria, the Dunmunkle Sump Oilers keep the Richard Hornsby engines, and other, in working order. The society also collects old engines and machinery tractors. The four Richard Hornsby Engines were assembled in Murtoa, Victoria for an inland abattoir and freezing facility established in 1912. These engines are the only engines of their kind still on their original bases anywhere in the world. Check out the static and running engine displays that helped develop Murtoa and area throughout the 1900s Engines will be run on Saturday and Sunday at 10:30am and 1:30pm & 3:30pm Many of our members bring their personal engines and run them throughout the day and enjoy talking about where they originated and their restorations Food is available on both days so grab the kids, the oldies and come on out to learn about local history Restoration Project Have a look at a recent restoration project by following the link below The Dunmunkle Sump Oilers Machinery Preservation Inc. was formed at a public meeting on the 6th of May, 1991 at the Rupanyup Historical Society with the intention of forming a club for those interested in machinery preservation. The club focus was to give interested people of the district who were collecting vintage machinery, an appropriate organization consisting of members with similar interests. In the first year there were 8 members. By the year 2001-02, membership had gronw to in excess of 70, and today stands at more than 95. The membership consists mainly of local people coming from as far as Birchip adn Nhill in the North, Ararat in the South, Natimuk n the West and many places in between. In addition there are members from more distant locations in the Western Districts and Geelong. Most members have their own collections of vintage engines and tractors, general vintage farm machinery, household items of days gone by and model toys from yesteryear and more current times. The Dunmunkle Sump Oilers purchased the current location in 2001 to preserve the Hornsby Engines. The existing superstructure was inadequate and ravaged by the elements over time. Funding was obtained to build a new shed over the existing engines and their beds, resulting in them being the only engines of their kind anywhere in the world to remain in their original location.
